While the name may never have technically gone away, content on OURBANDROCKS.COM from Saturday’s Child has been thin to say the least. About 18 months ago, James and I decided to rectify this and start putting out more material. It started with dusting off some old recordings and song ideas from the early 2000s, and we found a trove in the form of a live version of “Dysfunkshunal” The song had been on 2000’s “Rutherford”, our self-recorded effort as well as “Sonogram” which was our first real studio LP, and this live version actually featured tracks from former drummer, Nick Sprankles, who joined the band right after “Sonogram” was finished. These drum tracks were clean enough performed in Nick’s own style, and it served as the basis for cranking out fresh material.

So, with just that little bit of inspiration, Saturday’s Child set out to add new guitars, bass, and vocals to this version of “Dysnkfunkshunal” and paired that with “Risk”, another song written back in the early 2000s that never made it onto a record. With “Rutherford” coming up on its 20th anniversary, what better way to re-master and re-release those seminal tunes with some fresh sounds? “Rutherford 2020” can now be found at all online outlets.

During those sessions, James and I also put together plans to assemble all new music, a collection of songs written from 2007 through 2020 that would serve as Saturday’s Child’s return to hard rocking form. We came out swinging with a preview single released in late 2019, “33”, a crunching rocker with a haunting theme and melody signaling the promise of more to come!

And then it was 2020. The entire world literally shut down, and James and I couldn’t even be in a room to write together. Technology and tenacity teamed up to carry us through to continue collaborating with each other as well as long-time engineer/producer for Saturday’s Child, Carter William Humphrey. Through the dark months of the year’s historic global pandemic, we kept working, separated but still singly focused on capturing the moments past and present within the musical language we share.

The result is “Runway Runaway”, nine songs of emotions told through melody and experiences expressed with dynamic energies. Featuring events of the day as well as timeless themes of isolation, togetherness, and grit, “Runway Runaway” is a sonic leap forward with promise of even more to come.

Stream or download “Runway Runaway” from anywhere your device signs in. You can also check out our online store for details on acquiring hard copies on CD, cassette, or 12″ vinyl.
